Launch of the Cité-ID LivingLab

Tues­day, Jan­u­ary 30, 2018, marked the offi­cial launch of the Cité-ID Liv­ingLab in Urban Resilience Gov­er­nance. The event took place at the École nationale d’administration publique (ENAP) in Mon­tréal, and was attend­ed by rep­re­sen­ta­tives of pub­lic and pri­vate sec­tor agen­cies and organ­i­sa­tions who will be essen­tial part­ners on Cité-ID projects mov­ing for­ward. Cité-ID activ­i­ties will be coor­di­nat­ed by Marie-Chris­tine Ther­rien, Pro­fes­sor at the ENAP, and sup­port­ed by the Fonds de recher­ché du Québec (FRQ) and the ENAP. Rémi Quiri­on, Québec’s chief sci­ence advi­sor, spoke at the launch, high­light­ing the need for mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary efforts and col­lab­o­ra­tion among actors work­ing to devel­op resilience in Cana­da as well an inter­na­tion­al­ly. Guy Lafor­est, Direc­tor Gen­er­al of ENAP, described Cité-ID as a per­fect fit with the ENAP’s mis­sion to con­tribute to the devel­op­ment of an engaged pub­lic ser­vice and respon­si­ble cit­i­zen­ry. Patrick Dubé, from the Mai­son de l’innovation sociale, an impor­tant part­ner, under­lined the impor­tance of design­ing col­lab­o­ra­tive gov­er­nance infra­struc­tures. Urban resilience requires an inter-sec­to­r­i­al approach and pro­vides an oppor­tu­ni­ty to deeply trans­form urban prac­tices. Cité-ID is a safe space where peo­ple will be able to explore com­plex issues, and offers both an applied research envi­ron­ment and oppor­tu­ni­ties for exper­i­men­ta­tion. Researchers and prac­ti­tion­ers will be able to work col­lab­o­ra­tive­ly to devel­op solu­tions adapt­ed to a giv­en con­text. The Cité-ID Liv­ingLab in Urban Resilience Gov­er­nance will be housed at the ENAP in Mon­tréal. It will assem­ble urban resilience actors from across Cana­da and around the world, rang­ing from city man­agers to pri­vate organ­i­sa­tions, cit­i­zens and aca­d­e­mics. Work will be guid­ed by a 10-per­son advi­so­ry com­mit­tee rep­re­sent­ing cities, acad­e­mia, pri­vate com­pa­nies, and social inno­va­tion organ­i­sa­tions. About 40 peo­ple from a range of sec­tors in Québec attend­ed the launch, includ­ing com­mu­ni­ty-dri­ven and social inno­va­tion organ­i­sa­tions, uni­ver­si­ties, the Min­istère de la Sécu­rité publique, the Sûreté du Québec, the City of Mon­tréal, the City of Que­bec, Hydro-Québec, the Insur­ance Bureau of Cana­da and many oth­ers (see the com­plete list below).
