Conference organized by ROHCMUM on Preparing emergency disaster response with and for citizens : Transition NDG Workshops
On November 6, 2019, Morgan Chelihi and Julie-Maude Normandin from Cité-ID Living Lab, along with Maureen Lafrenière from Transition NDG, gave a presentation to the Montréal assembly of humanitarian and community organizations for emergency measures (the ROHCMUM). Entitled “Preparing emergency disaster response with and for citizens” the workshop described the reasons for and challenges involved in the project ‘Resilience and social capital: disaster preparedness’ undertaken by Cité-ID and Transition NDG. It also exposed ROHCMUM members to ‘Ready and resilient in the face of disaster’ workshops that offer a fun, participatory way to increase citizen awareness and knowledge of risks and best practices in individual and community preparedness. 50th anniversary of the ENAP: the work of the Cité-ID Living Lab in the spotlight
Cité-ID was featured in an article published Saturday November 2, 2019, in the newspaper Le Devoir. The article was included in a special supplement recognizing the 50th anniversary of the ENAP, the École nationale d’administration publique. Marie-Christine Therrien, Director of Cité-ID, Marie Daoust Gauthier, Research Assistant at Cité-ID, and the Association de Sécurité Civile du Québec, explain the accompaniment Cité-ID has provided the Association in its post-disaster recovery efforts. Workshop to creating social ties in the Centre-Sud neighborhood
Wednesday, November 6 at 7 pm will be held a workshop to better understand the concept of social capital or the creation of social links through the example of an activity that is regularly held in the Center-Sud neighborhood : Soupe Locale Centre-Sud. This activity organized in collaboration with UPop Montréal et CDC Centre-Sud. For this occasion, our research assistant, Morgan Chelihi and our co-director, Julie-Maude Normandin will be present as speakers during the event. Cité-ID Social Capital Guide is cite as an example in this report of the network 100 Resilient Cities
The 100 Resilient Cities network identifies in their report “A Practitioner’s Guide to Measurement Challenges and Opportunities ” several initiatives from around the world that measure social cohesion and to better understand role in the development of urban resilience. Among the ideas presented, our project on the Local Soup initiated by the CDC Centre-Sud is an example of a measure of social cohesion. The 100 Resilient Cities identify the City-ID’s Social Capital Measurement Guide as one of the references to be consulted by practitioners.For the achievement of this project, we worked closely with the CDC Centre-Sud, the Maison de l’innovation sociale (MIS) and the Office of the Transition and Resilience of the City of Montréal. The Cité-ID Director has been appointed to the Scientific Committee of the City of London’s Counter-terrorism Preparedness and Societal Resilience Project.The Cité-ID Director has been appointed to the Scientific Committee of the City of London’s Counter-terrorism Preparedness and Societal Resilience Project. Through the project, the City of London is collaborating with the cities of Barcelona,Manchester, Paris, Rotterdam and Stockholm to improve preparedness against the risk of terrorist attacks and better manage the recovery phase. The aim is to support and exchange learning around how to improve resilience in these large European cities. A scientific committee of eight international researchers, including ENAP professor and director of Cité-ID, Marie-Christine Therrien, has been appointed to support the European cities involved in this effort. Back on our particpation to the Winter School 2019 of INM On February 15, City-ID’s director and ENAP professor, Marie-Christine Therrien participated at the opening conference of the Winter School 2019 of the Institut du Nouveau Monde (INM).Hosted by INM Executive Director Julie Caron-Malenfant, this conference featured the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Canada, Jean-Nicolas Beuze, City-ID LivingLab Director Marie-Christine Therrien, and the initiator and spokesman of the Pacte Transition, Dominic Champagne. ACFAS 2019 — Participation of the Cité-ID at the Symposiums
2019 Congress of ACFAS This year, Cité-ID LivingLab will take part in two symposiums in social sciences and multisectorial as part of the ACFAS 2019 Congress. The conference “Design, Implementation and Governance of Public Resilience Policies” organized by Marie-Christine Therrien (ENAP), Julie-Maude Normandin (ENAP) and Geneviève Baril (ENAP) will be held on May 30, 2019.This colloquium aims to reflect on the development and implementation of public policies aimed at increasing the resilience of communities to crises through analyzes of the design, implementation and governance of these policies. This symposium also seeks to identify the challenges, problems and solutions experienced by public organizations to increase the resilience of communities at the local, municipal, regional, provincial or national levels.
