The director of Cité-ID, Professor Marie-Christine Therrien, discussed this challenge at a colloquium entitled “Design constellations: large-scale innovation ecosystems,” held during the 31st edition of the Entretiens Jacques Cartier. A guest speaker at the conference, Professor Therrien presented the approach used by Cité-ID Living Lab in Urban Resilience Governance to support actors in efforts to develop urban resilience in Québec. The colloquium assembled francophone Living Labs, public and private administrators and associations. Created in 1987, the Entretiens Jacques Cartier is the annual flagship event of cooperation between Québec and the Rhône-Alpes region in France. This year’s event, held in France at venues in Lyon, Saint-Étienne and Clermont-Ferrant, involved 30 sessions, 400 speakers, and more than 3,000 actors and decision-makers. ...

Marie-Christine Therrien, guest speaker at Mobilise2018 — Disaster Risk Reduction.
Professor and Director of the Cité-ID Living Lab, Marie-Christine Therrien, participated in to the workshop Mobilise 2018 — Disaster Risk Reduction conference which took place in Malaysia. Her lecture focused on collaborative network governance for the development of urban resilience. This event is part of a large research project managed by the THINKLab of Salford University to support building community resilience in Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Malaysia. Social Capital as a determinant of Post-Disaster Recovery. How to develop social capital before an event?
Several studies show that social capital build before a event is a key factor of recovery after a disaster. To better transfert this knowledge, the City-ID Living Lab organized a workshop led by a specialist on this subject, the Northeastern University’s political science professor Daniel Aldrich, and animated byt Marie-Christine Therrien, Professor at ENAP and Director of Cité-ID. This initiative allowed more than 30 participants from nine organizations to reflect on the role of social capital and how to develop it. This workshop is part of our two projects on social capital for youth and preparation for catastrophic events. Publication of Urban resilience implementation: A policy challenge and research agenda for the 21st century
How to develop urban resilience? Marie-Christine Therrien and her colleagues propose a new research agenda and a policy challenge on urban resilience. The authors argue that researchers and practitioners need to work together to better understand the transformative capabilities of cities, mobilize partners and develop new forms of governance. The 10 universities in Greater Montréal came together to launch the “10 Together” campaign
